Joanna is delighted to be welcoming  Paul Martin, affectionatley known as Paulus to Joanna's Place.  

Paulus, aside from being the not-so-easily-pleased judge on the BBC 1 hit talent programme All Together Now, is an all-round showman par excellence, having been an entertainer since the age of seven, so going on for some fourteen years now . . . (he says!)  

He has performed in and out of drag to literally tens of people up and down the country and in some venues he was actually asked to.

He is in demand worldwide for crimes against theatre since his performances in Paris, Berlin, Melbourne and New York in the early Noughties, and has graced TV screens as a mentor to pensioners, singing judge, lookalike/weight-loss adjudicator, and a badminton player with no shuttlecock.

Cabaret, Theatre and TV work not being enough, Paulus now tours branches of Dunelmin his thought-provoking and immersive one-man show ‘Can I Get A Refund?’ which one bystander called ‘Incessant’.

His witty repartee and knowing looks will make you laugh and cry In equal measure as he shares his unique work view through music - that of others and his own.

In this acclaimed show, singer/pianist Joanna Eden finally owns up to her passion for musical theatre and treads the line between jazz cool and heart-filled storytelling.  Launched at the EFG London Jazz Festival in 2017, Sondheim & Me show traces Sondheim’s work from West Side Story to Into the Woods, seeking to explore the jazzy side of Sondheim without losing the theatrical truth.

Joanna will be joined by accomplished musical theatre actress Leigh McDonald (National Theatre’s Olivier Winning cast of Honk, Mamma Mia world tour as ‘Rosie’) who brings an authentic musical theatre sound to proceedings. Enjoy Joanna’s jazzy take on Sondheim classics like ‘Send in the Clowns’, ‘Being Alive’, ‘Giants in the Sky’ and ‘The Miller’s Son’ whilst Leigh gives her mind-blowing rendition of ‘Not Getting Married’ from Company.  With beautiful duets on ‘Pretty Women’ and ‘The Ladies Who Lunch’ and an a cappella rendition of ‘Somewhere’, Eden gives Sondheim’s works a fresh new approach.

Five-time British Jazz Awards winner, trumpeter Enrico Tomasso met Louis Armstrong as a child and brings true affection and a wealth of knowledge to this celebration of the musical union of two titans of 20th Century Jazz.

 

Ella Fitzgerald and Louis Armstrong’s legendary and long-lived musical partnership was full to the brim with love, humour and effortless mastery of their respective instruments.  Their duets on songs like ‘Let’s Call the Whole Thing Off’, ‘Cheek to Cheek’ and ‘A Fine Romance’ have become classics.

 

A life-long Ella fan, Joanna Eden has toured her ‘Embraceable Ella’ show all over the world garnering responses like ‘bloody marvellous’ from Dame Cleo Laine and a standing ovation from Ella’s own archivist John Hasse of the Smithsonian Institution.

 

Joanna & Enrico are backed by the Joe Pettit trio featuring Dave Newton (Best Jazz Pianist - British Jazz Awards) on piano, Joe Pettit on bass and George Double on drums.
